    Campaign Medals

Why is there a campaign medal for Austria but none for Poland? I'm sure there's a good reason, but I've just never heard it. Ammersee

The annexation medals celebrated huge political triumphs, or perhaps more accurately gambles, that paid off without resorting to arms, that brought together a greater German Reich, and "Volk". In the ethos of Nazi ideology these were enormous success's.

The polish campaign was a flagrant act of aggressive war, and a precursor of the life and death struggle Hitler had committed the nation too. The defeat of Poland, France, the Balkans, etc; were but extensions of a new Europa under the German yolk, and/or securities against the real struggle, the life and death, in the East.

This may help explain the lack of Campaign medals, as the "struggle"/the war, was not complete, where as the annexations were complete, and unopposed by the powers that could have thwarted them.

Thanks PAB. I'd never really heard an explanation before. Ammersee
