recent russian front medal purchase

two russian front medals i recently purchased one is marked i believe 69 but kinda hard to tell anyone know why they look so different they both look ok to me and who is the maker 69

looking at the mark again it could just be a 6 with a little mark after it but can make the mark after the 6 out

Hi Maurice, I agree with Anubisz the left looks fine (in fact a very nice example) but it's hard to be sure with the one on the right...However, it's probably ok...In my experience these medals come in all kinds of condition and states of oxidation etc. Metal composition, often depending on the makers, has a lot to do with this I believe as well as the conditions under which they have been kept. So, they tend not to be extremely uniform, this is not generally a concern IMO. I will attach a couple of mine as examples of this. The marked is 13, Gustav Brehmer and the unmarked one is a Deschler piece. If the number is indeed 69, the maker is Alois Klammer, Theresienstrasse 20, Insbruck...Hope this helps. Cheers, S
