    I'd guess maybe a double struck/stamped "L/xx" marking in a rectangle.

      It's really strange. At first I though maybe it was done with a pair of pliers to
      bend the ring back in place. If you look at the back of the ring it is the same as any other medal with a maker's mark on the ring.
