    B.s.

    Gentlemen
I had a bad deal with the same man and it is recorded on this site. Although all my money was returned, I have been left jaded from his business and his dealings. I will always question the authenticity of his products and encourage all to research further
    on this site.
    Regards
    Michael

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,

and some dealers really do have a lifetime guarantee. At least Bill Shea honored his.

The background of this case was slightly different that I originally reported. My friend purchased this TDB from Bill Shea two SOS's ago; i.e. a year and a half ago. He paid $875.00, not $800.00 as I originally thought. So along the way, with the help of the forum, he discovered it was not an orignal one.

So he took it back to Bill, told him he had purchased it from him and had since learned that it was bad. Bill looked at it carefully and agreed it is not original. He then refunded his money.

      So to Bill Shea...

Freeman, I think it is a bit unfair to complain that "all my money was returned BUT I am still basically not happy". I know I certainly cannot tell real from fake always when I get outside my collecting speciality, heck sometimes I make mistakes inside my collecting speciality, so how in the world is a dealer supposed to know for sure whether a piece is original or fake when they have items from every segment of the third reich? I can tell you it is not possible! The best one can hope for is when a mistake is made the dealer makes it right and refunds the money without complaint.
        best wishes,

          Hi,

I am glad things turned out like this in the end but the value of TDB's have risen in the mean time and therefore still a loss if you ask me.

In my opinion if you are a dealer of militaria and sell such items for the actual prices, then you should always know your stuff and not depend on the someone finding out or not finding out the authenticy - this without exception and no excuses ! If you are not sure then it should not be sold or he atleast should price it accordingly.

I have made a pretty long and detailed thread on the TDB subject and find it has been most helpfull to many on identifying the reproductios; please do a search and I think you will get all the information you need.
