Was there a solid reverse variant to the 1st class Decoration? Were there many pin variations? Any information would be much appreciated.

Here are the reverses of mine:




You can see slight variations on the pins. I haven't seen other versions (except the 1957, whose reverse is scalloped but with a distinct ridge), but I don't claim any kind of expertise. Here are some 2nd classes, one of which has a solid reverse:

Thank you for the pictures of your 1st and 2ed badges. I was looking at a 1st class Gold with a solid reverse. It had the same thin type pin as pictured in " Forman's 1st edition, page 37. However the hinge was slightly different and the catch did not look correct. I can not find any reference anywhere that there ever was a solid back 1st Class. I assumed the badge to be fake and did not purchase it

better late than never. I just joined the forum and saw your question.

I believe the first issue of the 1st Class Award for Eastern Nations has a flat back. This award is identified by sharp circular borders on the front, not the twisted ribbon used with the later zinc issues. The book on awards of the 3rd Reich by H. Doehle published in Dec. 1942 shows all these Ostvolk awards with sharp edges.

I tried to attach a picture of a 1st class silver order of this type with a relatively flat back together with a scan from a German booklet showing the back of a 1st class award that appears even flatter but my membership status is not sufficient.

Since this thread I have never seen a first class with the solid back variant . All that I have seen , including several I own are just as Dave has pictured above. Thanks you guys , would like to know more about these awards.

Your version is only slightly dished out as compared to the others and the picture does seem to show the existence of a flat back example. I know these awards are not as glamorous as others, maybe someone has one to show.

That is probably about the third ORIGINAL Ostvolk award ribbon bar I have ever seen. Correctly, the "war merit" grade matching the KVK2X has NO swords, reserved for the "bravery" type.
