    Lifesaving Medal.

I have just purchased this awesome new medal from Mr Winkler. I have been looking for one of these for years... I would love to post more(about three more) photos, but they are too big (800x450) and I do not know how to crop them down! Anyway, I am wanting to learn more about this medal. I cannot find reference material anywhere that states how many were awarded and ect. I do know that it was only awarded for a short amount of time(1937-1939) when the War Merit Cross(?) was then issued in it's place. I hope that Kia does not mind me sharing the photos he took of my new prize!!

    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
To crop your pics, drag them into photoshop and when they open in photoshop go to the tool bar and click on image inside that menu there is one that says image size. Click that and a window pops up with height and width. Hoose pixels if its showing inches. then make sure that both height and width are 700 pixel or less. Then you can post them.
    Best, Sal

Thanks for the thread. I don't know why I did not see it... I guess that I must have misspelled something.

How many people here in the forum own the medal with the belly swastika?

        Thanks
        Paul

          Hi Paul,

To answer your second question take a look at this thread

          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...e+saving+medal

The medal posted by Prorege in that thread now lives safe and sound in my collection.

                      I will Sal, Thanks :-)

Now, how many people have this medal? Did you all have to look really hard to find it? I know that the Knights Cross is rare, but I must have seen over a dozen ads selling them since I started collecting(Ebay not incl... I am speaking of Bill Shea and other such dealers. This is the first Lifesaving medal I have come across and I immediatly purchased it... Even though it hurt the wallet a little I think it might be worth it(485 Euros).

For those who helped me find this medal as well as gave advice and post the photos... Thank you so much...

So how many forum members have this medal? There were only a few thousand presented if everything I read was true. I so far have only seen a couple on this forum in the previous threads. One was like mine(with the rim mark) and the other that was deemed original was unmarked. How many variations of this medal were there. How many are represented on this forum?

To me, collecting medals is much more than making a killer display. When I get a new medal or badge, I want to know everything about it(and the awardee if possible).

                        Again, thanks for your time.

                            Hi Paul,

I agree with you, it´s a scarce medal. I have encounterd only 1 or 2 for sale in my collecting years but I must add that I have never had much interest in it so naturally I was not seeking one. There is a plaque version for sale here http://www.thirdreichmedals.com/medallions.html maybe for comparison.

                            regards,
                            DJ
