Police 18 yr Long Service Ribbon?

    Hello:

Has anyone seen a Police 18 yr Long Service Award on this style ribbon? I recently bought this and it came with the cloth eagle device but it was not attached to the ribbon. I know the Police 8 yr medal was awarded on this type of ribbon.

    Thanks,

    John

I saw this thread earlier today, and didnt have time to repsond.

It would seem to me that any ribboned award that wasnt dependant on another award to properly wear, or the fashion of wearing dictating otherwise, should be accepted in this form of mounting. Flower war medals, Police long service, RAD long service, Westwall medal, Faithful service, etc, or any other award that can be properly worn singularly should be OK. I wouldnt be comforatable with a Wehrmacht 18 or 25 year long servce all alone like this, since they were meant to be worn together in pairs, and of course the EK 2 wasnt worn at all like this, so that wouldnt be accepted either.

That isnt to say that examples of those medals mounted in this fashion dont exist, or are fakes, ...just not correct. I have always thought that the pin back awards were presentation peices, and the ones sans pin were issued en masse or picked along the way from a supplier of some sort.

Exceptions to the rule seem to be the Blood order, as I think I have seen those on pin back ribbons, but they werent worn like that, at least not formally.

Here is an example of a mounted Police 18 year, with a Front fighter award. It helps breath a little life into an otherwise stagnant medal, IMO.

I think I've asked this before, but why was there two sizes of ribbon one wide and one of the normal size. Even the the wide ribbon version had a box to compensate for the width of the ribbon.

Any ideas on this at all ?

        Kind regards,

        Marcus
