Years ago, the widow of RK-winner Ernst Borngen gave to me several items having belonged to her late husband: Kommandeur of I./JG 27, 450 missions, and 45 victories, 24 of them four-engined bombers. His bullion pilot's badge that she gave me is highlighted on pages 136 & 137 of Stephen Previtera's recently-published Volume 2 Luftwaffe book. Nevertheless, Frau Borngen also gave to me Major Borngen's ID-disc, which she said in a letter he (of course) wore around his neck. Can anyone with more in-depth knowledge of Luft ID-discs help me identify what the inscription may mean, e.g., unit, etc.? From what I have studied about his wartime career, he flew with JG 27 for most of the war, beginning with II./JG 27 in 1940, Staffelkapitan of 5./JG 27, and ending the war as Kommandeur of I./JG 27. And may I be so bold to ask what value it might have? Thanks for any help you could provide.
