Opinions wanted on this Heer 25 Year Service medal with Luftwaffe eagle pin

Ok, like many of my other items, the time has come for me to sell this. I paid a pretty penny for it, so I hope it is ok, but I want to hear the opinions of you experts before I attempt to sell it. It has a nice long ribbon, but on the ribbon there are some oakleaves and also an old patter droop-tail Luft eagle.

IMO the oak-leaves are post-war produced, the banners shouldn't be cut-out.

Ok, but the medal itself and the Luft eagle are ok?

I have no problem with the medal can't comment on the egal or the oaks

though I think that both the cut-out and not cut-out versions were produced durning the war. It is true the cut-out versions were produced long after the war.

Just hard to find examples of them

i reckon the medal is fine, and the eagle looks ok, no problem with the oaks being the cutout style, as already said, these were made with and without the cutout. i think you've used a flash, and thats making things look a bit glittery, natural light will make them all look even better! but the medal itself looks a nice example, could do with seeing the reverse of the oakleaves, but i know thats not easy!! -Nigel

Nigel, out of curiosity, do you know this for a fact or is it merely your opnion?

hi Peter, to the best of my knowledge the oaks were made in both styles during the third reich period, its mentioned in various books, by Ailsby among others, do you think that the cutout style was only produced postwar?-Nigel

Nigel, here's an old thread and you can draw your own conclusions

Ok, I'm a little confused. Are the oakleaves on mine good, or are they from '57 ? Also, why is there a Luft eagle on an Army award? And lastly, what is a fair value for this medal?

I would read though the thread the Peter put up.

I know that the official 57s were were all cut-out (I had set) but I also had a 57 medal bar with solid leaves, so go figure??

A very hard item to verify one way or the other allot of collectors shy away from them just because there is not 100% answer.

Then again we are not talking about a 'high' priced item the usually run under 200$

The only ones I do not like were 'court' mounted singletons of this medal combination.

Singletons 'court' mounts had their purpose when the medal was 'formally' presented , given the fact that the oaks came out after the others you would never see this medal presented in this arrangement.

It there ever was a presentation ceremony for 40 year award the honoured person would of only been given the 'oaks' not the 25 and oaks.

                      Just my 2c
                      cheers
