Now here is a question that is a little off the beaten path.
In Volume 1 of Jill Halcomb's book, "Headgear of Hitler's Germany" -- a text that has been around for quite some time --- there are photos of visor caps on pages 272 and 273 of the branch of the Luftwaffe called the "Generalluftzeugmeister". Udet was the first Luftzeugmeister. I have attached a photo of the badge that was allegedly to be attached to the hat as shown in these photos.
In a discussion yesterday with one of the world's prominent Luftwaffe collectors, whose pieces and photos have been featured in many of these books including this one, he told me that he has never seen a photo of this hat in wear. The only place he has seen it is on the uniform tunic, where the Luftwaffe breast eagle would have been worn by other Luftwaffe personnel.
Does anyone have any photos of these badges in wear? And the hats? No period photos are shown in the book --- only photos of hats in various collections, though not in my friend's.
A challenge for a rainy evening .... and I started here since we don't have a "Headgear" forum.
