Gentlemen, Shown here is a World War Two German ribbon bar. I would appreciate your opinions. My question is why two service ribbons? What would be fair price for estand? Thank you........Harry C

hi Harry, regulations permitted the wear of two long service medals at the same time, either 4 & 12, 4 & 18 or, as i think in this case, 12 & 25, not sure on value, i'm sure someone will help you out with that -Nigel

I think the first long service eagle here is actually a silver one with a worn finish, showing only traces of silver. The second eagle device is definitely gold. This would indicate a 4-Year Long Service Medal and then a 12-Year Long Service Medal. The order is actually wrong here because the 12-Year (gold eagle) should be worn before the 4-Year (silver eagle). I think in this case it was just a simple mistake in award precedence, which was not all that uncommon. A 25-Year/12-Year combination is not possible without World War I service.

          Best regards,
          Tom

Harry C. are you selling or buying the ribbon bar? If selling, I would be interested in that particular bar set up,
Also I'm looking to purchase a 12 yr. long service award ribbon and medallion.
Anyone know where I might find one?

If the last right eagle has been replaced (which I think it has been), then the medals would have been 18 and 4, certainly possible in the old Reichsheer.
Often the bar's devices snapped off, especially at friction points.

This is another possibility as well. In fact, the use of two different colors of thread for stitching the wool backing in place does indicate a possible replacement of one of the eagle devices. The original stitching may have been cut away from the long service half of the ribbon bar so that a replacement eagle device could be attached in the proper manner, rather than pushing the prongs all the way through the wool and having exposed prongs on the reverse of the bar.

                  Best regards,
                  Tom

....... as they say in baseball: "good eye, good eye".

The Mod. should reheadline this thread as 'Ribbon Bar Detectives".....
