    Schrobenhausen vs Schrobenhansen

I'm taking this off from the Westwall Medals thread below, where it appears that Westwall Medal envelopes marked Carl Poellath Schrobenhansen may have come from one of our favorite dealers. We had a thread on this on the Association Members forum back in August, and I don't think we reached any definite conclusions.

Which one is right - hausen or hansen? (The actual town is spelled Schrobenhausen)

Or are both right, and hansen is just a legitimate period printing/spelling mistake?

I've probably had or seen 20 of the Westwall Medal Poellath envelopes, and I only remember one spelled hausen. That envelope was very worn. The vast majority of the envelopes with the hansen spelling look very new. I also have a Wound Badge in Black envelope with a Poellath stamp with the hansen spelling. This envelope came in a lot from a German auction and looks like it was made yesterday: no wear, never had anything in it, top of the envelope has never been folded down. I have always considered it to be a fake. The lettering appears to be the same as on a Westwall Poellath hansen envelope that I have, but the box outline is a little different. Chris Varveris also thought this envelope could be bad because he had not identified Poellath as a wound badge manufacturer.

    Opinions?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Well I am also still at a loss over the Schrobenhausen V Schrobenhansen. As you know I did query this with the repsected dealer I had purchased a Schrobenhansen Westwall from and he sent out a new Medal, narrower ribbon and Schrobenhausen packet which I received this morning.

To me the packets looked very alike and are good condition the only difference being the spelling and to some degree the clarity of print which is to be expected. Though I did notice the Schrobenhansen packet to be slightly shorter in length.

At least when you buy from a respected dealer and you have reservations over your purchase you can, in my case at least, query it and receive a replacement. I can not fault the customer service of Detlev and his team. Especially when you consider the inexpense of the medal its nice to think that you are treated the same as if you purchased a high end piece.

      Schrobenhausen

      Hello,
Not that this is of any particular help because I"m sure you've all seen items marked Schrobenhausen but the only spelling I've seen on items themselves is Schrobenhausen. I have a svce. medal for the Bavarian industrial league with the rim marked Carl Poellath and Schrobenhausen. In any case that's my two cents worth.

At the recent Union, NJ show one of the lessor dealers had a Westwall medal and packet. the Packet had the maker mark on the reverse cleanly cut out. Clever fellow !!!!
