The suspension ring of the Ostfront medal should actually pass thru the ribbon and not the eye hook as you have it. You should be able to put the suspension ring thru properly.
Nice minty Russian ffont medal!

Very nice looking medal, I love it
Though I would not touch the ribbon! The Austro-Hungarian and Hungarian medals had the same ribbon type and I can tell you that it was often this way, without putting the ring through the hole! It can be seen even in period photos. I don't think it's a Hungarian negligence
