    Beautiful Memel medal. Opinions?

Hi. The controversial flower medal strikes back! Need opinions on this one. Do you like it? I want to make sure before paying 150 EUR for it. It's a lot of money and I think it needs to pass the WAF test . By the way, 150 EUR for a Memel medal in this condition is fair or too expensive?

    Thanks in advance!

      Hi

Personally I would pass and purchase the more excepted version. Although I do believe that medals were produce during the time period that had a straight G most do not and if you ever decide to sell it, it will be a problem.

I will not say that this is a fake, but I share Kenneths point of view. It is far better to wait for one in better condition and maybe buy the most accepted version, due to future sales.

About the price I think 150 € for a medal of that condition is okay, not cheap but not expensive. But pricing is a thing on its own, it flows (Panta rei).

Thanks to everybody for your advice. Buying this medal is not an easy task as I can see... Many fakes, suspicious issues, more valuable issues... So which one do you recommend me to buy? That one with the laid-back "G" as I've read in other threads?

If you have access to Detlev's site, take a look at the "attributed" one he sold this AM. That is a Textbook accepted version. One that you could buy and sell with confidence

This is mine and the one I would recommend you. Same version as the one on Niemanns update.

                Best Regards

Ok Darrel and Karsten (and other members of course). Many thanks for the info. I thought these medals had a dark bronze finish, but as I can see, they have the same finish as the Sudetenland medals, am I right? I've always thought that the Sudeten medal was gold coloured, the annexation medal was silver coloured and this one had dark bronze colour, like the Olympic medals or so, but as I can see I was wrong (My theory is no longer valid ). I'll try to get one example with the laid-back G.

I am sure as is Karsten and many others that there was more than one original maker / version of this medal. But this one has been debated to death, and most agree without doubt that the type Karsten shows is 100% original. For this medal, I would stick to that version if you want to be sure

Thanks Darrell. That's what I will do, of course. It's an expensive medal and I want to make sure what's the best choice, and if that one you tell me is the best example, let's try to get one!

That's what I would do. At the end of the day, it's what makes you comfortable. What is your end goal? To resell one day? Or keep it and take it to your grave? I would think most would opt the first option. Easier to sell quickly with tried and tested variations. You may miss out on grabbing a "soon to be discovered" rare version, but it may swing the other way on you as well.

My idea is to keep it in my collection and take it to my grave (maybe a Ritter Kreuz would be a better choice to take with me to the grave, don't you think so? ). I don't have the idea of selling it, but who knows, maybe one day I have to sell some medals to get some funds for any economic reason (I hope it won't happen...). I always like to get the best examples for my collection, that's for sure.

Just curious, but what is the weight of it? As for the price, it seems rather high to me (or have these started to sky rocket?). I think the last good one I saw for sale in the US was around $150.

Prices has indeed gone up, and I think it´s due to that these are more rare than the Sudeten and the Anschluss.
I the beginning of this year, I say that price wen´t from about 160€ to 210-220€. Now they are around the 280-290€ mark for the version with the tilted G.

As already stated, I´m also quite sure that there is more than one version of it. The problem is just which one of them, apart from the tilted G.

                              Regards
