Goethe Medal for Arts and Sciences - Dr. Karl Escherich

Hi All!

I thought I might share my newest pick up, the Goethe Medaille fur Kunst und Wissenschaft awarded to Dr. Karl Escherich. I think I can safely use the word 'rare' for this award as there were only 410 awarded under Hitler. Dr Karl Escherich, who was both an MD and PhD studied entomology and created the German Society for General and Applied Entomology and actually has an award given out now in his name for work in Entomology.

The best I could find about him online is this Wikipedia entry. Interestingly, it states that he was an early party member (1921) and participated in the Putsch which should have made him eligible for the blood order and maybe a GPB?

Anyone who has more info about Dr. Escherich or the medal itself would be appreciated!

Thanks. I have been doing a bit of searching and really have not found much about these awards and only one other example in the WAF archives. Someone must be hoarding them.
