    Luft. Honour Goblet

In continuation of the discussion we had in the last few days about cleaning Honor Goblets, I would like to know if these are faked (probably they are !) and how to recognise the frauds.

In addition, there is 1 such Goblet for sale in Manions auction in the Personality section with number 51-66087. It has its case and is very reasonably priced. Opinions?

    Hello Denis,

The convincing fakes were made in the 1970's. There were two problems: the swastika was not embossed on the Iron Cross and the oak leaf band ran the wrong direction. The easiest way to tell is to look on the inside of the goblet. If the swastika is embossed so you see the opposite impression, you are safe. On the copies, the swastika was carefully soldered in the center of the Iron Cross and there is no impression inside the goblet.

Correcting the oak leaf band was simply turning it over, prior to assembly. I would imagine this could have been easily corrected and it is not impossible for originals to have this assembly mistake.

These are the only convincing fakes I have ever heard of.

      Hello Bob,
Question - Was the embossed swastika found on both the Alpaka version and the real silver version of the goblet?

Yes, all original goblets havce the swastika embossed. If the swastika cannot be seen from the inside of the cup, there is no hope of it being original.

Another type of fake I have seen

            - Basic pokal with "less" interest names, ranks ........ reworked to become pokals wth RK names - Previous names were removed and another one was added.
Factual example: 7-10 years ago, the pokal (original alpaka one) of H. KUNTZ (RK Bomber) was for sale, the only problem is that Kuntz's goblet was with ......KUNTZ and not for sale - having seen pics of both, I assume that the "reworked" one went into a collection while the original one stayed with Kuntz til he died few years ago.

            - There is something else I am aware (especially for Alpaka ones) - Goblets were produced WITH NO engraving (names added later) - Some of these goblets surfaced some years ago with "no name" but by miracle they were sold with famous names.

            - For info, please note that even the documents are faked.

So like everything else in the collection, do some study and research BEFORE jumping for one
