    WWII Medal Bar Question

    Hello, all -

What are the odds of a 2-place medal bar having only a WWII EKII and the Hindenburg Cross for Combatants on it? I've seen lots with the Imperial EKII, but only one with the WWII award and the Hindenburg Cross. Any thoughts? It seems to me that that may be a little odd. As always, any help is appreciated!

Not odd at all. I've had a number of ribbon bars with that combination, probably a "summer of victory" 1940 40-ish Unteroffizier of the Reserves.

The only thing is, medal bars are now being faked as well as ribbon bars. If the construction is right, a blacklight is still an absolutely indispensable tool. While many colors react vividly (and perfectly correctly, not a problem) to blacklight, the tell tale electric blue that modern white emits will be enough to tell most potential fakes from originals.

Simply as a pair, this combination sets off no alarm bells.

        Black light to detect fakes?

        Good Evening,
Rick I just read your response to a gentleman who was questioning his medal bar. What is the purpose of using a black light? What can it tell you, and in what situations would you have need for one?
        Thanks for your help,
        Mark

Using a blacklight will in most cases pick up the UV in modern fabrics/ materials. They will glow. Although one must ask the question what if they are using period ribbon stocks to produce the repos.

As I belive running the blacklight over a suspect ribbon bar will generally answer your questions, that it is a repo that is produced after May 1945.
