This is in the family of the original holder of these awards who was a vet of both WWI and WWII but the ribbon configuration is throwing me for a curve. Medals with the complete wrong ribbon?? Can anybody shed some light on this for me?? If this were in a collection or at a show I guess I could chalk it up to someone simply not knowing what ribbon goes with what but since it is still in the immediate family, I thought that perhaps there was something I was missing. . . anybody?

This is a four-place Bavarian style medal bar clasp to an NCO. The medal bar should have hooks on the back so the medals are easily removable. The medals just got switched around over the years. The bar is actually missing the 1914 Iron Cross Second Class, which should be first on the bar (extreme left). The Bavarian Military Merit Cross Second Class should be next (it is the silver cross with the swords above and the enameled center disc). The 1914-1918 Cross of Honor should be third on the bar. The last medal on the bar should be the Bavarian Long Service Medal, which is the round silver medal. The Russian Front Medal does not belong on the bar. I would think that this medal bar was assembled in the mid 1930s, shortly after this WWI veteran received his 1914-1918 Cross of Honor. This man may have received the Russian front Medal in WWII, but it really doesnt belong on this medal bar. He probably never had a new medal bar made to include any of his WWII awards.
