    Medal question

What German medal is referred to as the KEK? It may be WWI.
    Thanks for any help.

A wild guess from my side would be Imperial Eisernes Kreuz

      Hi Don Bible,

KEK is "Kriegsehrenkreuz für heldenmütige Tat" from Lippe-Detmold, please see here:

Thank you Uwe. This was an award to a WWI Kreigsmarine officer whose records I am researching. It was in addition to the EKI and EKII. He was an officer with VI Torp.Flo., IV Min-suchflottile from 1.8.1914 to 1.9.20. His grad was Oberleutenant zur See.

How significant was this award and what was the basis for earning it?
        Thank you for any information.

          Hi,

740 awards, the German catalogue OEK say 300 Euro.

Please see my link and please, use a translator, e.g.

          http://www2.worldlingo.com/en/produc...ranslator.html
          or
          http://www.online-translator.com/text.asp?lang=en

Copy the part of the page, which is overwritten:

          Besonderheit zur Verleihung:
Verleihungsvoraussetzung für das Kriegsehrenkreuz für heldenmütige Tat war die Vollbringung einer herausragenden kämpferischen Einzeltat, bei der der Beliehene sein Leben riskiert haben muss. Zur Verleihung musste diese Tat ausführlich geschildert und begründet werden. Eine denkbare "Heldentat" war z.B.:
Aushebung eines feindlichen MG-Nests im Alleingang.

          Regards
          Uwe

              Hi Don,

by using Google I found this quotation from my website www.hausorden.de.
I planned a english translation of these sites, but I have no time.

              Here is the correct english-translation:

The honour cross for heroic deeds Lippe-Detmold was spent for a single
deed, for what the person risked his life.
This deed had to be proofed and had to be described detailed.
An example for such a deed was destroying a maschine gun by only one man.

              Some more information:
The documents for these crosses were signed by Prince Leopold IV. of Lippe-Detmold himself.
A well known owner for example was the "Red Baron", Rittmeister Manfred von Richthofen.
I found his signed receipt of this cross in the files, which can be found in the archive in Detmold

              Best regards
              Roman
