    Hindenburg cross

    Hi everyone,

I have got some Honor cross, it seems that all have different maker mark, I just wonder how many markers out there for the Honor cross? Is there any best makers or rarest makers make the cross more collectible?

    Hello,

I really do not know how many different manufacturers produced the 1914-1918 Honor Crosses, but I would think at least a hundred or more. I think there were more manufacturers involved in the production of Honor Crosses than of any other award of the Third Reich Period. It would be interesting to try and collect as many different makers as possible. There is no particular maker that stands out as far as the best quality Honor Cross. In my opinion, they are all about the same quality-wise. Scarcity of manufacturer is another thing that is difficult to determine. The ones I seem to see most frequently are the "G" series, "O" series, and the "R.V. PFORZHEIM" series. The example you show with the "B.H.L." I would consider less common. I would also consider the unmarked ones scarce. Since the vast majority of these crosses were struck from iron, I would consider any non-magnetic example to be very scarce.
    Best regards,

Oh, yes, I will be more than happy to send the picture.

Just another question, I posted here

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=269447

            but haven't got any reply.

I wonder what should be the ribbon of Honor cross for combatant? I think the ribbon should decorated with cross swords, but I have seen so many without it. Quite confused.

              Hello Fan,

For a medal bar bearing the Hindenburg Cross with Swords, there is no need for the crossed swords device to be attached to the ribbon because the swords are already on the medal. Sometimes it was done, but it is basically needless repitition. However, some medal bars were made so that the medals could be removed; so that it could be worn either as a medal bar or an oversize ribbon bar. On these types of combination clasps, you are more likely to see the crossed swords device attached to the ribbon. Now on a ribbon bar only, the swords device would be necessary to differentiate the combatant award from the non-combatant. Hope this helps.

              Best regards,
              Tom
