      "IMO is an wartime error."
Are you being ironical or serious? It seems a bit odd to make such a big wartime error.
Here is an other link that says 1942: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/rela...ian_awards.htm

When I was in French medical school, we had an extremely important exam to pass; and we received invitations to come to this exam on february 31st.
I though "Damn, that gives us one more month to study", as the exam was supposed to in january. I then noticed that februaray 31st doesnt even exist.
They mean january 31st, and had made a typo in the letter, and then made 700 copies of it, and sent it to all the students...

I am sorry, but I still believe these medals were given out during 1942 already.
Why is the diploma for the medal named to an Italian soldier? I have always read that this medal was for German soldiers only?
Also, I am not fluent in Italian, so dont understand everything that is written in the Brambilla.
I do seem to see that is says something about '42, and then something about officialisation happening on january 7th 1943.
Was the medal distributed "unofficialy" for sometime, or something like that? Or was it authorised for Italians at a later date then the Germans?

Could you briefly translate what is written in the Brambilla book?

            Jean Loup,

no problem, the medal was produced by Lorioli factory in the
1942 at this date is an common not official medal private purchase
to the german and italian troops without an official degree.
The Duce in the 25/12/1942 give mentioned this medal after the
Comando Supremo give the authorization, only in the 1943 is
            an italian official medal.
            cheers, Raffaello

              Hello Willem,
Thanks for posting the picture of the entire medal bar. Even without seeing a picture of the reverse, I am fairly certain that this is an original WWII assembly. It is a great looking medal bar and the price is reasonable. There is no problem at all with the combination of awards on this bar. The one thing I did notice (and it may just be the picture) is that the ribbon eagle on the long service medal looks like it is gold colored. It should always be a silver eagle in combination with the 4-Year Medal. It is probably just tarnish or a tombak eagle with the silver finish worn off. Overall, it screams ORIGINAL to me.
              Best regards,
              Tom

                Hi Raffaelo

This explains our disagreement then. Some people already aquired the medal in 1942; but it only became official in january 1943.
But what about what is written everywhere about the medal being for Germans only? Why is your document named to an italian?

                    Hello,

many collectors think that this medal is an german awards this is an mistake!
this medal is created and produced in Italy sold by Lorioli factory privately
purchase and only in the 1943 officially granted by italian Comando Supremo
to the soldiers germans and italians.
Is an strange case of an italian axis medal, many example exist of Axis medal
the same for the romanian medal of 1941/42 Cruciada Impotriva Comunismuli
(crusade medal anticommunist) awarded at italian and german soldiers, and at
                    other axis allies.
                    cheers, Raffaello

Thanks for the explanation; then several sites should update their info about this medal.
So what was this medal given out for? If the soldiers could buy it themselfs, then it sounds like it was just a kind of souvenir medal, and has nothing to do with an act of courage etc?
Was the medal given to all vets who had fought in North Africa?

all german and italian soldiers who had fought in North Africa had this medal
(like commemorative cuff title 1941 Afrika for german soldiers) only a commemorative
                        medal, nothing do with bravery.
The web sites info about this medal have the idea of an german award produced
in Italy this is the basic error.
                        cheers, Raffaello
