    Are RAD medals copied

    Hi
Would appreciate your views on these. The one on the left weights 14.4g and the other 20.4g. Also,I have included a close up of the medal on the right as because of the rim at the bootom.Personally I do not like them but I would appreciate other opinions.

    many thanks

IMHO the right one for sure is bad......the left looks a bit better, which metal is made of?

          Hi

I think a good general rule of thumb is that you should assume that everything has the possibility of being faked. I think the one on the right is a cast copy. You can the pitting from air bubbles normally associated with cast copies.

            Hello,
I think the medal on the left is a good original; unfortunately the one pictured on the right is a fake.
Just my opinion, I'm no expert on this!

            Best regards,

            John.

Sadly, in this hobby, everything is faked

                Left one is good

                right one should be burnt

I agree with the above. Another thing to remember is that early awards of these (pre war) would have been made of bronze and later ones of zink so you will find a weight difference. Always look to the details.

                    Hello Andy,
I agree with everyone that the one on the right is a cast fake. No doubt on that one. Like you, I am also suspicious of the one on the left. The wear to the swastika reveals what looks like brass base metal. If it is made of brass, I would say that it is a fake. The detail also seems a bit lacking, but that may just be the pictures. All of these awards were made in the pre-war and early-war years so they should be of excellent quality. Most were made from copper-clad aluminum (cupal) and they are very lightweight. (About 9-10 grams.) Some were made from tombak bronze and those generally weigh about 20 grams. I would be very suspect of an RAD Medal made from anything other than cupal or tombak.
                    Best regards,
                    Tom
