    N?

Most of these have the "N" inverted, in some refernce books too.
What about your opinion about this fact.
This one was bought in 1978 in spain in a flea market.

      Hi Philippe,

Thats the medal I was talking about in the thread about the Spanisch "Ostfront Medal". It's an original medal but I don't know if it is German made during the war or Spanisch made after the war. Who know's the difference?

        Hi Philippe,

Just saw that there are 2 medals featured in Klietmann's book one German made and the other Spanisch made. Your medal has the German features (the Spanisch version doesn't have the decall on the helmet) but the one in the book doesn't show the inverted "N"

          thanks

Thanks for your reply. I've seen this as a german made one in some books too. The spanish is very poor quality.

            Is this example maker marked?

I don't like some details in this medal, supposely is an early bronze model so must be manufactured by Deschler, find here a zink piece makermarked for them and compare the characteristics.

Also the ribbon looks too dark, see the thread relating to Ostmedaille spanish made and see this medal with its unmounted ribbon (this came from a batch found in Madrid unused in its paper packet and wrapped in tissue paper)

teh exemple I've is made from bronze. I think that this exemple is more detailled than the zinc you have. There are some differences in the design.
If you check well the bronze exemple and compare it to the one pictured in forman's they are identical.
                que tal espana?

Por España mucho calor, pero todo bien.

Regarding the medal, I don't like it because early bronze awards were made by Deschler and later zinkers were done with the same dies/moulds (excuse my ignorance) and must feature the same design, and here yours and mine are diferent (I have other example exactly the same as the first mine and I have checked with other in my archives and I can't find the inverted "N" and some minor details) the ribbon is the same as used in current reproductions sold as per se in several shops and is the same as spotted in the postwar spanish made as replacement. Yours must be marked "1" in the suspension ring and bronze ones are really rare.

Just my opinion, but due all that I have exposed I think this is a post war one, in other way I can't imagine why an inverted "N", if you have some reference book that show this variation I like to see it, all days we know something new.

                    ?????

It could be a repro or not, I don't know.
                    I checked it well
                    -It is made from zinc
-very well detailled, some loss of detailed due to resizing pic process
                    -unmarked
If it is repro very well done, I've to find the book.

If a zinker we can be talking about another maker diferent from Deschler. Also we can be in front of a shootgun marriage, wartime medal and postwar ribbon (I have one that was so, the ribbon was changed for a postwar one, darker than the original, if interesting I can pur a scan of both to show the difference)

We need desesperately the book to check the inverted "N" and other details.

                        Ribbon

I've seen 2 other inverted N medals with original ribbon in 15 years.
I never seen a normal N, and asked each time about this detail the sellers did not have spotted.
Some other exemples to show here?

Nice examples both, but.......James, what the hell has done with the suspension ring? You have destroyed a beautifull medal

We can see that both has normal "N", can James show us the ribbon? I have seen a lor of original medals with fake ribbons and I wonder why as no great demand for the ribbon alone.
