    Question...

I was wondering.... when a soldier 'won' a medal, whatever medal but TR, do you think, or know if the soldiers compared makers?

For example, if Fritz A, Fritz B and Fritz C got the EK1, was it common that they checked and compared the maker? was some makers 'better' during the war?

Fritz A, B, or C: no. Hermann Goring: yes.

A neat question, but I don't think the lads would know the difference, or really care to be honest. I'm sure the war kept them busy and they had more immediate concerns. The different maker marks might be noticed and they must have known that many different companies made the same awards, but "better'? than Karl's EK1? Different manufacturers might have the slight but tell-tale differences in their version of the award but quality and production was always closely regulated by the "powers that be" and as far as I know there were really no second rate makers in the TR.

If you don't mind, could I expand on your question?

If Fritz learned he would as to receive a TR award, say the EK1, who in the chain of command actually purchased the award to be presented to him? And was the maker chosen just a matter of chance or convenience?

        Expand all you want

That is a very good question, did they get the ek1 from a pile of random makers?

        Thanks for the answers
