What’s up with the eagle device on the police awards?

Anyone know why they choose to have that embroidered eagle device on the 18 & 25 year Police Service Award? I find that it looks awkward and out of place. Wouldn’t have been more practical to use a similar eagle device tlike the ones on the military long service awards?

Ya think becaues this is the emblem of the Deutsche Police. As all the long sevice ribbons are cornflower blue IM sure it was used so if one were to wear just the ribbon you would know they were Police not Wehrmacht or Customs

      John,

According to Dr Doehle's book, the reason for these little bars is that when they mounted the ribbon with the woven eagle on, it was impossible to make the eagle sit straight. The bar was meant to have the ends tucked into the ribbon so that only the eagle was showing (but I've never seen one mounted like that). I don't know why they didn't just go with a metal device.

Thats not only a police problem. Some of the 3rd Reich long service awards (SS, RAD...) shall have EMBROIDERED devices. Good knows why only the armed forces got the practical metal devices. That extra-tab with the embroidered eagle looks always sloppy.

        Best regards

        Daniel
