Well from what I see I think it's a bad one. This is why I think so:

1. The curvature of the "M" in the word the "Memellandes" curves too much in the known fake and on the original the curvature is much less exaggerated.

2. The word "ERRENING" does not have the token bend to the arm of the "G", the fakes have a straight arm on the "G"

3. You can also see subtle differences in the "2's"

I know that this will cause some argument because some people do not believe in these general rules for Memel medals but I would say that most people do.

I don't like the pitting on the reverse of the Memel medal - it looks like a bad cast job. Also, I would imagine that the Faithful Service decoration is a replacement and that there should actually be a Wehrmacht LS medal there instead.

Your bar is probably the only one I have seen with this '2nd type' Memel; every other one I have seen has the more accepted varitation.

That being said and without opening up another Great Memel Debate thread, I wonder if it has been switched out at some point over the last 60 years because I do agree with Brian that the Faithful Service was more than likely switched for a LS.

I notice that the Romainian medal and the Memel are both in really rough condition, but the Austrian beside it looks great even though these have a history of not standing up well over time. The ribbons look like they held up well and do not really match the condition of the last 2 medals on the bar. How do the other medal look in comparison for condition/wear?

I was wondering which version you were talking about. I have see good one's of the second type but I do not believe this is one of them. On the second type you see more curiture of the M's but the M is also slight long the the 1st type. I will produce of pic of what I mean I just have to find it first.

All crappy condition Al, especially KVK, they look natural, Romania nis beat to hell also. 25 year is also beat, but who knows , I also think a TS went there. Austrian is ok but not great, lighting made it look better.
