Hi Stu cant see any problems, looks like a nice original . Zinc appears to be just showing up under the finish in certain areas. Looks good .All the best

        Zinc is it.

Thanks very much...zinc you say though...it's being sold as a silvered bronze piece. That's not good. Will have to check further.

        Regards,
        Stu

A weight would solve the issue quickly. Beautiful example, my friend! A very handsome collectible.

Hi Stu have looked at this award very closely and it is hard to tell due to the pics and flash etc. If you look at the very top part near the ring the metal appears to have a BronZe type patina which would indicate that it maybe Tombac, there are other areas that have the same type appearance. The middle etc thou looks dark Grey as does the bottom and reverse which could be just the pics it is very hard to tell with pics. If it is being sold as Tombac then any dealer should know and you could always return it if it does in fact turn out to be Zinc.

Left hand tip of eagles wing also has a Bronze type spot which would indicate Tombac but it is a very differcult call as the pics look alittle dark. All the best

It would be interesting for Darrell and Stu to compare weights...

                  Perfect medal, Darrell.

I'm pretty sure Stu's is Tombak as well.

I see there is one for sale on e-stand (part of a medal bar) that appears to have the setup and appearance of a zinc version. Hopefully the owner allows me to show it here:

                      Silvered bronze

                      Hi guys,

First off thanks for the assistance. I must admit to a slight error here. I said the medal was offered as silvered tombac when I should have said silvered bronze. I do not believe that it makes a difference as regards to the color though as both will show a bronze shade where the finish has worn.

Robert, the weight idea is a good one. As you know I won't be home for another few days but will then get a scale and find the weight.

Darrell...if you have an opportunity to weigh yours and add it here or send it to my email that would be great. I will let you know how it goes. I have also checked out the estand pictures and see a difference.

Regards to you all. The assistance is always appreciated.
