    Ost Medal Keepsake

    Hi Chaps

    I thought I would share this item with you from my collection. I am really fond of this. It is a homemade rememberance item for a soldier who was lost in Stalingrad (1941/1942)

    What I like about this is that not only is it unusual, but you start to wonder why it was housed in a fake book. Was it because the family felt they had to hide the fact after the war.

    Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do

    Raymond

              Raymond, that's a poingnantly stunning item - thanks for sharing. Do you have any other history behind it?

              I think based on the efforts that have been gone through to present the OST, that the family were proud.

                Hi

                Sadly, no more information with it and so it remains a mystery.

                It is one of those pieces that really does get your mind wandering. I always imagine his mother sat at home, occasionally taking the item from the bookshelf, and thinking about her son and what happened to him.

                It is a rather sad, poignant piece for sure.

                  A very special piece with a lot of emotion behind it, Raymond. I am glad that it has found a good home.

                    It looks like they cut the info off the pouch that was issued with the medal and pasted it in the display as caption (descriptive) text, to include the maker info!

                        Very intersting and unique. What does the spine of the book say?

                          They may have lived in the DDR, where such a display may not have been looked upon favourably, Comrade.

                          Regards;

                          Johnsy

                            Yes, Comrade, DDR most likely. What a great piece!
