    KV medal ribbon

I have 2 medals with ribbons where the ribbons have different width.

How wide is the ribbon supposed to be ?

    Nobody ?

    Here's a pic:

On the left the colors are smudgy and floats into each other, maybe been wet ? The right one is like new..

30mm is your standard issue width and 25mm is the width for a buttonhole ribbon.

        OK, thanks.

So if I get a KVM with a 25mm ribbon it's the wrong ribbon ?

Kiefer, where is this info available? Detlev illustrates the EK2 clasp on a 30mm ribbon . The 25mm ribbon was the standard size for the ribbon bars.

          cheers

I know that some ribbon bars utilised 25mm ribbons (and 15mm of course) but we are talking about a full length ribbon here not a ribbon bar.
25mm were also used for court mounts as well.

One reference is Robin Lumsden,s "Medals and Decorations of Hitlers germany", page 141.

Quote,"the 25mm size was also used when looped through the second button hole of the tunic, for example with the EK2 ".
Makes sense considering the average button hole width for a tunic was 26mm and 25mm would of fitted perfectly. Its obvious in period photos when the issue 30mm is used as the ribbon ends up with a side fold.

So the 25mm ribbon is original for the KV medal ?

                  Hi Peter,

                  Jokka,
The 25mm ribbon on your medal is a probable replacement. This medal would of come with the standard issue 30mm size.25mm ribbons were supplied or purchased seperately from the award for the sole purpose of being used on the tunic to put through the buttonhole.

Its a common scenario postwar for medals to have ribbons replaced.
The fact that the 25mm ribbon you show is in pristine condition could be good indicator it is a later addition a well.
