    2 Afrika Medals - Medaille fur den Italienisch-Deutschen Feldzug in Afrika

    Hello People,

    I have here 2 Afrika Medals of the same manufacture: LORIOLI MILANO (F.M. Lorioli & Sohne of Milano).

    But, these medals have some differences:

    - The name of manufacturer "LORIOLI MILANO" in opposing sides;
    - The name of the designer "De Marchis" in the base in relief and low relief;
    - The dimensions are equal;
    - The weight of the medal of left is 13,0gr and of the right is 14,8gr;
    - The drawing is identical in all the details.

    Had these medals been produced at different moments for the same manufacturer? I believe that both are original.

    Regards,

    Schmidt

      I don't see anything that would jump out and tell me they are repros. I would have to guess that they were just made in different years. i believe my example has the elevated lettering. So the indented strike could be a rarer version possibly??? Matt

        Hi Schmidt the style of lettering are accepted variations on these awards. The one with the markings on the right, some like these other do not, me why i am right where i should be sitting on the fence . All the best.

          yes, the style on the left is regarded as the norm.

          But that is not to say the right hand variation is fake.

                  Not the best website to find nice originals. I think both versions are acceptable, but prefer the one on the left myself.

                    Here's are photos of one I had in the collection.

                    Medal has a silver wash, that has worn off over time.

                    Regards,
                    Howard

                        If I buy another for the collection, it will be a nice early bronze.
