A Wonderful Group

I just recently had the wonderful opportunity to purchase this unique medal, document and photo group directly from the family in Germany. I usually collect helmets, but I just could help it when I was offered this as a group.

It is for a soldier that served throughout the war in 2. Kompanie Grenadier-Regiment 424. The Group consists of:

Close Combat Clasp in Bronze with Document
EKII with Document
Infantry Assault Badge in Silver with Document
Russian Front Medal with Document
Silver Wound Bade Document
Black Wound Badge Document
Ribbon bar with EKII and Russian Front Medal
4 original photos, including a studio portait photo with above ribbon bar.

As mentioned, I collect helmets, so I will be placing this Group on e-stand shortly.

Here is the Close Combat Clasp in Bronze with Document. About 80-90% og bronze left with only minor wear to the high surfaces.

The EKII with document. I cannot see who signed it. may be someone else can help with that? The ribbon is gone, I guess sewn on the uniform.

The Infantry Assault Badge is not maker marked, and of the "scoop-back" kind.

Both award documents for Silver and Black Wound badges are present, while the badges themselves are missing. I also got a photo of Gefreiter Pohler in his hospital bed after being wounded surrounded by pretty nurses.

A couple of more photos that cama along. Thr first one I believe is taken in France. I notice it is before he was awarded the EKII.

As mentioned, I will post this group for sale on e-stand later this week-end.

The second I have no clue where is, but it has a handwritten text on back.

can someone explain mefew things with this group....

- His EK2 document is sowing 1940 date... and Unteroffizire rank....
then 1942 document for winterschlaht shows gefreiten rank...

1943 document for BWB shows Grenadier rank...

altogether - strange... not to mention Him recieving EK before IAB (4 years difference ???

never seen sucha strange dates and ranks.. - am I missing something ?? or maybe this 1940 date on EK doc is 1945 - but not fully printed ???

My guess would be that this was a back dated award. The 424th Regiment was part of the 126th Division and the EK was issued by the 253rd Division, which was probably the unit Pohler served in before he was in the 424th. I'll bet the signature on the EK doc is for one of the 253rd's later war commanders. The award was made for actions on or about the 1940 date on the document but presented later in the war when he was more senior and in a different unit...The Grenadier rank is tied to the designation of the unit as a Grenadier Regiment vice an Infantry Regiment...The 126th was also one of the units that fought at Kurland
