WOW! neat medal! wonder if its real? This is only a guess but this might be a medal that was givien to soliders who fought in Poland and France. It says on the back "A fighter for the German freedom"

            Hi,

I have heard/read that these were only struck in iron, and therefore should attract a magnet. Maybe others can confirm this? I'm away from my references for a while.

On a tangent, I had a chance to acquire one of these out of an old collection that was being split up years ago - I've always kicked myself for not buying it, but a mint cased EK1 Spange sitting next to it was cheaper and had more appeal at the time!

Mike is right, according to what I remember from Forman's book, combatant versions were struck in bronze but none were ever awarded, non-combatant versions were struck in iron.

We discussed these briefly in the past, here is a little bit more info, maybe others have some more information to share?
