    mother cross fake or real?

    Hi All,

Here is a mother cross.... It has slightly "fat" than regular characters surround the swastika.

    Thumb up or Thumb down?
do you like it or no-no?

    regards
    ken

Well, if it's any help it doesn't look like mine. The enamel doesn't seem to have the same depth or life but this could just be the photograph. Also, the gilt borders around the arms of the cross and also the swastika are much finer on my example. The obverse legend 'Der Deutschen Mutter' also seems sharper, more precise, on my example. So on this evidence I'd have to give the thumbs down.

However, I must say that I am no expert on these so be warned I could be talking rubbish.

      Hope this helps,
      Toby.

PS Sorry but I don't have a picture of my cross: I'll try and sort one out tomorrow.

        Toby,

This is exactly What I seen on other example. Other
seems finer... but is the real one shown the same similarity of this one.?
I assume variation of mother cross...?

        regards

I also have to go with thumbs down, Its just that that border is much thicker than mine.

Ken, is the blue enamal translucent? From the pictures it looks pretty clear..

what about the background texturing in the blue? Is it a consistant texture 'flowing' in the same direction? Or is it a series of random bumps? Again, from the picture it looks to be a consisent pattern.

Most of the fake Mothers Cross I have seen dont lack so much in design as they do in quality--murky enamel and the random dimple patterns I speak of.

Notice in this picture of a silver grade Mother Cross the pattern as well as design of the underlay. This is what you want to see--and you will need good light and a loup to do so.

Here's a picture of mine, cased an' all. Hopefully, I'm not going to get any nasty shocks.

                  All the best,
                  Toby.

PS Hope the photos are clear enough.
