Hello All,
I think the Gods have smiled upon me today, but I'm not really sure. I was wandering through a neighborhood tag sale yesterday and came upon a WWII Corporals uniform in the back of the garage I was in. Picking up the jacket and looking in the inside pocket I came across a 1942 police donation pin, a 1934 Tag der Arbeit tinnie, and a small badge I remembered seeing before in books but not up close and in person. When I got home I proceeded to "look it up" in references and found out it was a
SERVICE BADGE FOR FEMALE RAILWAY STAFF. Now in every reference I find it says it is a very rare badge, first awarded in October 1944. Moreover,
it is the even rarer Silver Class. Now I ask those more knowledgeable than I on Service Awards ( Frank ) - is it the real deal? It looks identical to those pictured in the books, but I'm a Luftwaffe guy, what do I know! Help Guys!!!

Dear Eric,

First, let me clearly state I know NOTHING about these, nor did I ever handle one. So treat my post just as an opinion.
But from what I see on page 249 in Detlev´s price guide (also a reverse shot) and my gut feeling, I would say this one looks perfect and original.

Are you Irish, as in "The Luck of..." ?? I'd have to look that piece up also; but considering the circumstances of the "find", you probably really lucked out.... just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for that CPL's uniform with all the surprises ?

pics I've seen of this award in references, the pics and this badge are a dead match. Also having one just like it in Detlevs' Price Guide is a definite shot in the arm. ........ Hello Kevin, actually no Irish at all - my whole family is German, so even we seem to "get lucky" every now and then. I didn't want the uniform (badly stained in the jacket) so I asked the son about the three
"goodies" and he agreed to let me have them for the lump sum of
$5.00 U.S. cash money! To get something of rarity for a price like that is really unthinkable. The son told me he didn't even know that the three pieces were in the pocket and thanked me for my honesty in bringing them to his attention! If anyone else would like to add something here about this piece, info, opinion, etc., I'm all ears. Maybe I'll send Detlev scans and pick his brain too!

Eric, out of curiosity, how much did he want for the uniform. I haven't any uniforms due to their prices as I am a low end collector.

I'd kind of like to know what a heavily stained uniform goes for.

Hello Chuck,
Sorry, but I can't be of any help here - I didn't ask a price for it. When I found the three "goodies" in the pocket of the jacket, I put the jacket back on the hanger in the garage and proceeded to take the three to the man running the show. I told him that I took them out of the pocket of the uniform in the garage. He commenced to tell me that it was his dads' WWII uniform and he took it from his dads' attic when he passed. That's all I know about the uniform!

From the images posted it looks like a Bronze badge that has lost most of it's finish, remember that these were a late war issue.

Hello Wood,
No, I really believe it is a silver class - the base metal is definately zinc, but it has remnants of a white wash/frosting to it. You can see that wash better on the reverse than the front. The darkened spots on the front are actually areas of the wash / frosting that has taken on a patina - again you can see this happening on the reverse.

I stand corrected, you luck so-and-so,i n my youth I found a bronze one in the pocket of a railway tunic but disregarded it because it was only a railway badge and the tunic was a massive £4.50!
