    mothercross

    Hi all,

I recently bought a mothercross bronce from a german dealer.
What makes me wonder is, that the letter b in the word Dezenber is written in quite another style than the other ones, I have seen. This one here is like handwriting round b and not like a typed b.
    Any opinions about that?
Does anyone think this is a cause for concern that the cross could be a repro? The dealer says, it is an original, but he has never seen such a b on a mothercross as well.

    Thank you
    Hansi

It's difficult to say from your pictures, but the "b" does look different from two that I have. Here are two links to a bronze and a silver MC for you to compare to. I've had numerous Mother crosses pass through my hands and I believe these two to be authentic, based upon the finishing, materials, weight and design features. One thing I have noticed on fakes is thet the enamel is "dipped" or "wavy". On authentic badges the enamel finish should be even accross the medal. See the side views on these.

Hi Hansi, I have checked the 5 Mothers Crosses that I own and they are all have the usual letter "b". I have never seen one with that shaped letter before, but now I will make a point of looking. I cannot say if it is original or not.
      Cheers, Ade.

        Hansi,
I have never seen one with a "b" like that either.
Any chance of getting a clearer picture? It might just be my imagination but dont the numbers look a little different from what they normally look? And the "D" in dezember?

          Mothercross

          Hi,

Thank you all for your opinions. And thank you Lorenzo for the very good fotos, you made.
My picture was a scan. I will try to lean a digital camera and make some more - better - pictures, also from the frontside.
The damned thing is, that I wanted an original, so I spent a little bit more money and bought it from a well known dealer. And now I do not know, what I have in my hands. The dealer says, that the crosses are so cheap, that he never took much attention on the backside, but it is an original. I doubt that. Now I have some more crosses(especially golden) bought, in order to keep the best cross and to sell the other ones again. I noticed, that they are all looking different. I cannot decide, which are originals and which are not. The writing is different, the shape of the Jets is different, the colour is different. The enamel is also different. One golden cross, I have has a very thick swastika-plate, that is put on the cross; I do not even know, if it is a golden or a bronce one. Do they have such various manufacturers, that the crosses are all different.
The collecting is getting more and more difficult.
If you are interested, I try to make some pictures from the other ones I have (I now have 4 golden ones).

          see ya

            Hi hansi,

Your quit wright they are difficult little bastards those mummy crosses.

If we know 20 or even more makers of PAB, IAB and EK why wouldn't that be the case also with the mothercrosses.

From a technical point of view the craftsmanship needed to produce these crosses was much higher than for PAB's and IAB's.
If you consider the quality differences in for example PAB's from one maker to another you can imagin that that also would be the case for the mothercrosses. That for me explains why they show so many little differences.

In attachment I post a comparison of my three crosses. Although
you will also find little differences in the letters non of them shows that strange "b" .

            Kind regards
            Philippe
