SS Hatching, Stippling and Thumbprint Grain

Hello, I have put this item for viewing in the hope that someone can assist me with my understanding of three terms I saw on previous threads concerning 4 year awards.

This item came direct from a veteran, was with many other items, all good, so I am not concerned that it's a fake, just that I am not sure what Hatching, Stippling and Thumbprint Grain are all about.

I have 3 pictures and in the third I think I can see what the Thumbprint Grain is all about but the other two terms I am still foggy on. Anyone care to enlighten me? Maybe enough to identify a maker?

    Thanks in advance.

        Hi Stu,
Stipling is the characteristic texture pattern seen on the surfaces of some medals. The term"Thumbprint"describes the style of stipling
Stipling comes in different froms.KVK,s for example have different style again.
Hatching refers to the "Cross-hatching" on the bulbous part of the acorns.
