I have noticed that the vast majority of these SS=Dienstauszeichnungen 1 Stufe with the non-textbook 35mm ribbons, are mint examples with relatively non-mint runes, but this could be due to the embroidery being executed in the pre-cellon days, when I believe the 'gold' used in the manufacture of bullion thread was likely to oxidise very quickly. I have also noticed that there is little, if any, uniformity in the many different examples of embroidery seen on these ribbons, compared to the 49mm type...NB the the thin style of runes shown on this & many other threads that all show evidence of at least some standardization. Note also the heavier style of runes on my mounted 12 year example (below left) as compared with Himmler's mounted 12 year (below right), as they show remarkably similar characteristics...the images shown in the Heinrich Doehle tomes (both photographic & illustrative) also show a certain cohesion with this style of runic motif.
In conclusion, I can only repeat what has been said many times before on this forum...ie. when it comes to non-textbook items it can be a 50-50 call which can only be made by the prospective purchaser.Attached FilesLast edited by J C Gray; 09-10-2006, 12:10 PM.
