    far from the homeland (Medal in a Bock) Never seen some bevor

    Hello Fellas,

    i will show you some i got cuble of month ago.
    Its a Medal in a hand made bock, dated on outside with Mexia 1944.

    The medal himself is read on the first side;
    Deutsceh Wehrmacht Fern der Heimat

    Second side read;
    Amerika 1944

    I got this as a lot with a officers sidecap and his officers belt & buckle from his the owner´s nephew.
    The owner dien in the midle 70´ and the wife last year, the nephew have to clean up the house and this came across from the attic.
    It was storred there a very long time i think after the war it was never touched up again.

    This what came with the medal the storry that was told me is that the grandfather became a pow at 1943/4 and this medal was give to the wife.
    To me the book cover looks handmade i did this a very long time ago in the school bye my self can it be a youth work?

    What kind of medal is this and did you seen some like this befor?

    Regards
    Bjoern

    One of the German POW camps was located in Mexia, Texas and this item appears to be from this camp. Check link below.

          On the medal, it says WEIHNACHT, NOT WEHRMACHT! ("German Christmas far from home").

          Seems like an item made in the camp and sent home to the relatives on Christmas. See bound hands on one side symbolizing encampment as a POW.
          Cheers, Frank
