    Kenneth

I was merely stating that I got the medal from Detlev. I wasn't necessarily expressing any degree of confidence in it.
In any case, I purchased it from him probabaly seven or eight years ago.
    Why don't you like it?

      Hi Kenneth,

top row, from left to right:
      Doehle 1942
      Meyers Lexikon 1940
      Doehle 1944
bottom row, from left to right:
      von Hessenthal/Schreiber 1940
Deumer catalogue, period before 1945, no year specification

For the originality it is not important, to look only on the "G", see the period pictures above:
Differences in the G, the M, the Ä, the 9, the acorns and/ore in the oak.

It is more important, wether it is a stamped/coined (geprägte) medal or a casted (gegossene) medal.
Stamped medals are rather bright, casted medals are rather dark.

I think, that the upright G fom Detlef (Post 7) and the piece from George Stimson (Post 8/9) were stamped pieces, originals.

And I think, that the medals in Post 10 -13 are casted pieces, I don't trust in the originality.

The comparison from Detlef Niemann, shown in Post 14, is not correct.
He must compare two upright G's or two laidback G's.

For that we in Germany say, "er vergleicht Äpfel mit Birnen", he compares apples and pears.

      Regards
      Uwe

I'm bringing this one back up with more grist for the mill. This is from Detlev's update today. It's marked "L/11" on the ring. (I really wish I'd gotten up earlier today and been able to grab this one!)

          Hi

          Hi George,

I see I'm not the only one who saw this and saved a pic of it. Here's mine. Yes this is one that when looking at it I would say good. Not because it came from Niemann but for me the charateristics meet the standards I'm looking to see in a time period peice. I do agree that with UWE when he said

          .
This rule can also be applied to other Third Reich medals such as the Prague bar.

Most likely more than one type is period made

I do prefer the tilted G variety best . That said, it is difficult to refute the period photo evidence shown on this forum in memel badge threads. Additionally , I have seen 2 different types on what I believed to be period medal bars. I ended up buying the tilted G bar I also really like the one George got from Detlev, the quality is there for me.
            Thanks,Kale

I voted for the slant G style initially, I guess I was just following the crowd. But now, several months later and after having done a considerable amount of research, I have concluded that "Both are good".. Believe it or not, there are even fake slant Gs. This is a tricky little medal and will always be controversial as there will always be a clash of opinion ..

              All the best ..

                Originally I was a slanted G fan.

After doing a bunch of research I think both straight and slanted g are good.

Here's one that I picked up in a mounted group of three.

It is stamped. Detail is excellent and it has a different style to the wreath bottom.

                It is also magnetic.

No doubt in my mind that it is original.

I only like the one's with the letters H C under the wreath bottom

It's very small stamped but on some memels you will find them

These are the kind I like. Just picked the minty one up. Now I am trying to figure out which one to keep. I should probably just keep them both.

I definitely need to work on my picture taking. The wife must have screwed up the settings.

I like both, straight G a little more as it is more 'unique' or contentious. I'm still looking for a slant G, just missed the one on Carsten site today.
This is my L/11 straight G
