I'm not sure how anyone could could confirm that either Peter, Waldemar, or Walter Seewald were Totenkopfring recipients when it is not reflected in their SS Personalakten. Of the 3 names mentioned there is only a Personalakte at NARA for Walter S. who first became a W-SS Untersturmf******252;hrer in June 1944 and was not an A-SS officer. Peter S. born in 1922 is obviously too young to have received the award in 1941. Waldemar is a possibility, however, his complete Personalakte is missing associated with his being KIA. It is more probable that the Ring belonged to A-SS Obersturmf******252;hrer Robert Seewald, born 19.1.1909 who became an Untersturmf******252;hrer on 30.1.1939 in the 87 Standarte. His SS Personalakte does confirm that he was a recipient of the Totenkopfring. Robert S. had been a member of the SS Totenkopfverbande of the W-SS from 15.11.1939 - 26.8.1940 where he attained the rank of Scharf******252;hrer. This fellow had no other military service and is totally unremarkable.

      John,

      Thank you for your help.

In re-reading my initial post I realize that I should not have written:

"there were three Seewald Honor ring recipients"

What I should have written is that there are three Seewald's listed in the Dienstaltersliste, or at least found on research CD's of such lists. I won't go back and edit it now but acknowledge that I don't know for sure if any of these men are known to have received the ring as I don't possess any of the written material that might confirm it, but I am still inclined to think that it is possible, given the areas of operation of Lt. Straka and Ustuf. Walter Seewald, that the possibility of it having belonged to W.S. is still a strong possibility.

Also, I have a good lead on a possible son of Ustuf. Walter Seewald's, born in 1941, and who lives within the Eastern Standard Time zone. Tomorrow I plan to call him and see if this lead pans out. If so it might prove quite interesting.

I in no way though contradict what you have found regarding Robert S. Seewald and will pursue this lead as well........thanks again!

In light of what Jon wrote above about Walter S. not being an A-SS officer, and the fact that he almost certainly could not have recieved the ring in 1941 in the W-SS, doesn't that definitively rule him out as the recipient of this ring?

Did you get in contact with the possible son?

I have a number for him but I have never been able to catch him at home. The telephone simply rings and rings.

I continue to try from time to time. If I ever find out I will respond further.
