Memel Medal -- I think I bought a fake

I just got this Memel medal in the mail. I don't think it is real. Looks like gold-colored plated pot metal or zinc, which I don't think is right for this medal. This is the first one I have seen...other than in pictures, so your opinions would be appreciated.
