    Gen. Ringel's ribbon bar.

Here is an original picture of Ringel on Crete. The size of the ribbon bar is impressive. It must have been sometimes difficult to wear.

Austrians-- even ex-privates!-- had such enormous ribbon bars because EVERYTHING they got from WW1 was worn on a ribbon/medal bar: no pinbacks like the Germans! Three or four bravery ribbons, as many as 6 WWI commemoratives, toss in any jubilees, the old Karl Wound Medal, 1912/13 Mobilization Cross etc and even an ex-Unteroffizier might look like a "Field Marshal!"

Ringel is usually seen in his Knight's Cross portrait wearing a Bulgarian St Alexander Order-Commander with swords and a nice clear shot of his multiple WW1 Austro-Hungarian valor awards.
