    Two variations of ostmedals

    Someone told me that there are two varieties of the ostmedal, an early one and a late war model. Can someone tell me the difference or show a couple pics? Thanks, guys

    Hi.I'm not entirely sure of the differences between early ones and later ones but i have noticed one definite variation;
    If you look at the branch that crosses the sword,now look at the leaf on the end (left) where it joins the branch there's 2 berries....On some i've seen on this site and in books there's only 1 berry.
    Maybe this is a way of telling.........

        Wow - that's a very detailed analysis!

        Also, I think the first-round of medals were made of higher quality metal than later pieces; the finish on the earlier ones didn't bubble up like the later ones.

                    Well,we could assume that 1 berry and no bubbling is early as above and 2 berries and bubbling is late like mine??!!!!

                            Hi Guys personally (and I am getting my body armour on) , but i believe there were 3 possibly 4 types of Ost medals, Buntmetal the early type that held their finish even to this day, later ones with the same type of finish but poorer quality metal that did not hold the finish as well as the first type. Third type that was not coated with the silver finish at all, and possibly the pot metal type.Ive had so many of these and that was the conclusion i came too. Oh yes i for got to mention the 5 version designed and tested fom 1990 onwards . Im in the bunker now,with helmet on. All the best

                              AHA!!! I'm working on the 6th type as we speak (metaphorically),i'm experimenting with a simple and yet effective construction made up of empty match boxes,pens and vacuum fluff ...
                              I'm not really .On a serious note,thanks for the info,i'm relatively new at this so,the more usefull information the better.

                              Thanks
