Hello,
I just found your board and hopefully at just the right time. My wife is German and her Great Uncle was in the Hitler Youth and the Wehrmacht. He fought on the Eastern front in 44-45. He was wounded at that time. His hometown was overrun by the Russians while he was recouperating and subsequently he burned / buried everything that had to do with his being in the Wehrmacht. The only things that survived were a picture of him in his uniform ans his original papers awarding him the Wound badge. My wife and I have since gotten a wound badge for him. Because he was fighting at the end of the war and things were a little sketchy with his memory,
my inquiry is this. What other awards would he have rated for his time of service. I have had some people tell me that he would have rated the "Ost" medal for being on the Eastern front. Is this true?
As a former Marine myself, I have an I Love Me box with all of my Medals,ribbons,etc.. and my wife and I would like to get one together for him.
Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated
Sincerely,
Shoe
