Eastern Front Campaign medal marked "136"

I recently obatined a Ostfront medal: it has all the hallmarks of an original: the medal has good detail although quite worn due to aging.

The ring is stamped with the numbers 136 as far as i can make out.

This number is not listed on this site as far as i am aware. has anyone come across this makers mark before?

    regards

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

    Welcome to the forum.

136 is J.Wagner & Sohn, Berlin. They're attributed mostly to the manufacture of EK's and Imperial/Prussian awards and famously the 1870 EK it seems.

If you do a search on the Crosses Forum, it brings up EK's and KVK's with this maker mark. I'm also pretty sure there exists a wound badge produced by this maker.

I'll search my collection of award packets and see if the name crops up on any of those too.

Thanks Marcus. Yes It had not occured to me to do a search with the MM on the forum so many thanks for the info.

the interesting thing with this medal is that the ring is made out of a metal of very different quality to the medal itself: it looks almost like it is made of a brass.

As the Eastern Front is my main focus of interest in all things WW2 Ostfront medals are of particular interest to me.
      cheers

      Dave
