To me it looks like a good type 2 (Possible P&L). But to be on the safe side wait for more opinions, as there are real experts on these here.

Theres likely a reason it sold cheap. There’s stuff about the piece that makes it hard to be sure of (base-metal appearance, odd/possibly artificial aging, strange but close details of key features, etc). Collectors would rather have a piece that is less questionable.

To be honest, as with many other 3rd Reich awards, they are not rare so many people will wait for a good condition piece to come along with the correct finish remaining. It's only the rarest of items that you can expect to shift easily for really good money if it's damaged in any way.
