    Reiterabzeichen

Hello! I have a question from a friend of mine. I cant answer him, therefor I let you guys handle the question!

"I have a question regarding the german "REITERABZEICHEN": There are a lot of these around, some with "R" and some without. Some are produced by "Christian Lauer, Nurenberg, Berlin" and some by "Steinhauer und Lück". On WWII and pre-war pictures you can see Allgemeine SS/SS officers wearing these. So my question: How can you separate pre-war/WWII-issues from post-war issues?"

    Cheers

The WW2 ones have the R. The ones without the R are current issue.

I thought the badges without the R were also worn prior to the NS Zeit. Is that not correct? Or is Angolia wrong when he states that on page 262 of "For Führer and Fatherland Political & Civil Awards of the Thrid Reich (updated)?" He states, "The badge took the design of a mounted horseman surrounded by an oakleaf wreath. However, at a later date, a Roman letter 'R' in a circle was added to the base of the wreath."

So, then the concensus is that both Forman and Angolia are incorrect and this badge was not worn prior to 1933? If it was worn prior to 1933 how does one tell the difference between current badges and those worn prior to 1933?

I would ask a moderator to move this thread to the Political Forum. Hopefully, you'll find an answer there.
