Is the name on the right side of the gator the only sign of fakery? I think I have a fake, but the ribbon doesn't glow under black light. Marvin

@Eric: Great example! Mine is actually not zink, it is also made out of solid Buntmetall. It seems to me from your scans that your designerĀ“s name is also in relief (not incuse). Is that right?

@Marvin: Sorry, I did not want to confuse you. I just said that one fake I pictured had the makerĀ“s name on the right side. There COULD be originals with the name to the right side, I do not know that! Maybe SONS OF MILANO marked on the right side.
Best way to tell is the base metal. If it is not brass Buntmetall and not zinc, but a modern type white metal, than you probably do have a fake. Can you show it?

          Cheers, Frank H.

            Frank,

I'll see if I can get a scan posted. Thanks.

BTW, what do you do in Munich. My brother-in-law is stationed there....I think, in the German Army. He is in Air Traffic Control.

Pic 1 front I/G Afr Corp Medal

As I said, the ribbon doesn't glow under a black light. The medal itself is non-magnetic. However the maker mark is by the right leg of the gator. Marvin

                    ooops!

                    Hi Frank,
Sorry about calling yours zinc, but I was not aware that they also were manufactured in buntmetall with the bronze finish applied. The two I was always aware of were the solid bronze pattern like mine or the bronze finished zinc pieces. Also, yes, the manufacturers name and the designers name on mine are in fact in raised relief - good spot! As for the silvered version of these, I can't really offer a comment here because I have never owned such a piece to date.

                      Sandsturmorden

                      Hello,

Anotehr point that is very important for our readers is the following => These medals are from Italian producers so whenever one encounters such a piece with a LDO marked paper packet ( as the one FRank shows as a fake one ) that is a very bad sign !!!!!!!!!!

These medals where originally distributed in a little paper packet from the Italian firm who made them and at least one of these little paper packets is known to bear the following discription :

                      STABILIMENTO ARTISTICO
                      F.M.LORIOLI FRATELLI
                      A.E.G. LORIOLI
                      MEDAGLIA-DISTINTIVI-COPPE
                      MILANO VIA BRONETTI 25
                      ROMA VIA DELLA CARROZE 3

So once again iff you see such a medal in a LDO packet , the packet is either added to make the medal so called more interesting ( + more expensive ) or it is a total bogus setup ( medal and packet ) !!!!!!!

                      Cordial Greetings,

@Eric: My medal does not have a finish at all, it is also base metal like yours, just a brighter brassy Buntmetall.

@Marvin: hard to tell from your pics, medal could be ok, but also couldnĀ“t be ok. No way to get a better pic?
P.S.: I worked in the computer games industry in Munich, will be looking for a new job in January 2003 (old company closed doors).

                            and a silver one?

Not sure if this is good or not would appriciate feedback, ribbon glows!

Note that on the bronze original above the manufacturers name is above the left leg on the silver it is above the right.

                              Italo / German campaign medal

                              Hello,

Thanks for showing the paper packet => is there something printed on the reverse ?was this the medal that came into this packet or are these placed togheter ?

Iff the ribbon glows then the ribbon is for sure a fake ( or washed at some stage with todays washing products !!!!! => altough not likely ), then keeping in mind that the ribbon glows either a person added a new ribbon or the medal itself could also be bogus !!!!!!
