    second: westwallmedal

this is my westwallmedal, with paper bag- doesn´t glow either, nice detail, but as I said, let the experts tell me if this is a good one because I don´t know anything apart from the historical background of this medal....shame on me !

      Jan,

If you browse through old threads i think you can find info's about the packeted "Schrobenhansen" medals.
Pesonally i beleive that only the zinc medals are original and both the ribbon and bags are fakes (well made though).

Unfortunately, jan, you seem to have obtained the same combo i had a while back.As chris said "Fake bag" "Fake ribbon" but original medal.
the correct spelling on the packet should be "schrobenhaUsen" not "schrobenhaNsen".
The story i was told some time back was that quantities of ribbonless unissued original medals were found, and mated up with repro ribbons and repro packets, and then dispersed on to the market as totally original sets.
as i said, I too had the exact same combo as you .I dont know if anyone noticed but these sets hit the market about the same time as alot of original russian front medals with repro ribbons hit the market.Same source perhaps?

Dont feel to bad jan,as i got one of the russian front ribbon refits as well.

Yep I had one of these as well, if you do a search on the forum you should find the infomation regarding these, with plenty of pictures. Same goes with War Merit Crosses, thousands of these are floating around with fake ribbon, bags but good medal.

I too have one of the aforementioned zinc-medal, repro-ribbon combos. Yet the bag it came with is clearly marked Carl Poellath, Schrobenhausen. Very clear U. Any way to tell if this a reproduction? - blacklight? The ribbon is definately bad. I also have a bronze earlier piece but the ribbon is a more dull copper color as opposed to the orange color on the few fake West wall medals I have. Is the dull copper ribbon more common on originals, or is the orange color authentic as well?

            Best regards,
            John Harman

Not real sure about the ribbon colouring as ive never really taken a big interest in west wall medals.Mine had the fake envelope and didnt glow ,so that isnt a definitive test.Yours is probaly an original envelope,as the biggest clue was the incorrect spelling.
original ribbons should in my opinion have the same feel in between silk/satin and most repros (especially when they are new) are like a starched polyester shirt.

I dont know if thats a great description but to me thats what the relative difference is to me.
