    Azad Hind as 1957 ?

    Hello All ,

Just found this on militariaweb , would an Azad Hind award been allowed under the 1957 ruling like the Ostvolk awards ?

It would seem that this award was given out after the war as well. As to being used after the war be those awarded it, this happened. The Indian legion had reunions in Germany, I have a photo of such in Hamburg about 1980. One member Nuemann was wounded on the move to Germany by the resistance. He recieved the Wound badge black and one presumes his Azad Hind cross for the action.

I knew they were made post war but wasn't sure if they were officially sanctioned 1957 awards . I knew the Ostvolk awards were authorised . Phew i can scrub the Azad Hind off my 1957 wants list !

A bit of the history, these awards were issuded by the Free Indian organisation. Thus not a Third Reich award. Germany had no authority to designe or organise this. It dose of course have the right to stop its citisens from wearing or recieving the award. If it had been awarded to you, you could wear it without restriction. As far as I know the German Government has not prohibited it wear.
